Mirchaiya, (Siraha), 21 July - Leaders of the Dalit community have resolved to work together to solve the problems faced by the Dalit community. Dalit executive members, Dalit civil society organizations, officials of Dalit fraternal organizations of political parties and officials of Dalit journalist networks have expressed this determination.
During the 2-day program organized by the Dalit Sarokar Manch Nepal at Mirchaiya in Siraha, the Dalit executive members expressed the view that their voices were not heard because their number in the executive was small. Also, they mentioned that due to the lack of mandatory provisions for the Dalit community, no budget is allocated for the Dalit community, even if it is allocated, very little is allocated, even the allocated budget is not allowed to be implemented, even if it is allocated, it is given to unrelated parties without being allocated to the target community.
They also said that the Dalit community could not unite due to the political parties creating an atmosphere of discord among the Dalit people's representatives, Dalit members blindly signing the decisions of the executive committee, and the role of Dalit members in the executive committee was not effective due to the fact that they could not put their demands in an organized manner.
During the discussion, the officials of the Dalit brotherhood organization of the political party said that the leaders of the party in which they are safe are discriminating, the leaders do not give much priority to the Dalit community, they use the Dalits only when taking votes, they do not provide the necessary information and training to the Dalit community and He expressed his grief that he would be retaliated against if he said something or did an activity without his permission. They said that since the leaders of all the parties are killing the Dalits, no matter which party they belong to, there is no option but to move forward unitedly on the issue of Dalits.
Similarly, the representatives of Dalit civil society informed that they were discriminated against even by the donor agencies, the district administration office and other government agencies did not cooperate and the municipalities did not want to coordinate with the organizations of the Dalit community. Instead, the municipalities had submitted evidence that they gave contract work to commercial organizations, and even gave them the responsibility of the work to be done in the Dalit community, but they agreed to accept the Dalit organization.
Similarly, officials of the Dalit Journalists' Network complained that even Dalit community members who had reached other positions did not want to support Dalit journalists and their organizations. They mentioned that they lack opportunities for capacity development, and due to poor economic conditions, they do not even have common items required for journalism such as mobile phones, laptops, and cameras, so they are unable to effectively expose the concerns of the Dalit community.
Bhola Paswan, the executive director of Dalit Sarokar Manch Nepal, the organizing organization of the event, said that the Dalit community is still suffering from caste discrimination, and that such a meeting was organized with the aim of dealing with such problems in an organized manner. He said that the purpose of this program is to unite and create a systematic environment because 1-2 people or some communities/groups alone cannot end the problem of oppression and injustice against Dalits.
