
Local Caste discrimination and untouchability monitoring committee formed in Kanchanrup Municipality

Lalan Prasad Gupta, Mayor of Kanchanrup Municipality said, - The law is an important step to eliminate social divisions and empower people of all communities to live with self-respect. On Thursday, 24th October 2024, in Kanchanrup municipality hall, USAID civil society and communication project implemented by The Asia Foundation with the financial support of USAID Nepal and Dalit Sarokar Manch Nepal Saptari and in cooperation with Kanchanrup municipality "According to the Dalit Empowerment Act 2076" in the program to form a monitoring committee on local caste discrimination and untouchability at the local level.
According to the Mayor Gupta, Madhesh province government made a law in 2076 to end untouchability and discrimination. The law will help to change the practice of fighting for rights. Dalit communities who have been struggling for rights and equality will be empowered by forming the basis of positive thinking. However, making a law is not enough, it needs to be implemented effectively. During the committee formation program, Deputy Mayor Muna Kumari Pokharel expressed her gratitude to the officers of the newly formed Committee on Caste Discrimination and Untouchability in Kanchanrup Municipality. Pokharel said that the committee should be run effectively to protect the rights and rights of the Dalit community. She said that the law made in 2075 was implemented in 2076 and there is a need for its proper implementation.
Jogendra Pasman, ward chairman of Kanchanrup Municipality Ward No. 4 has been selected as the coordinator of the Local Caste Discrimination and Untouchability Monitoring Committee. The members of the said committee are executive members Manju Devi Khang, Chandrika Devi Khang, Shobha Pasman, Ranju Kumari Sardar, Mangale Damai of Nepali Congress, Sanjay Pasman of CPN-UML, Kuleshwar Sardar of CPN-Maoist, Jivach Sardar of Jaspa Party, Fanindra Sardar of Janmat Party, Shravan Kumar Ram and Kanchanrup. Shushila Chaudhary is the municipal social branch officer.
Rajkumar Paswan, team leader of Sarokar Manch Nepal Saptari and media person, made a detailed presentation about the purpose of the untouchability monitoring committee formation program and the work and duties of the committee.
