
Food relief materials distributed to 650 households of Musahar and Dom communities

Food relief materials have been distributed to 135 households of Musahar and Dom communities of Chhinnamasta Rural-municipality Ward No. 2 of Saptari district on 7th June 2020. The relief materials were distributed by Dalit Sarokar Manch Nepal, Saptari with support from Vidyadhar Acharya Mahayogi Shridhar Rana Rinpoche of Vyom Kusuma Budhadharma Sangha.
Out of 135 households, relief materials were distributed to 18 households of Dom and 117 households of Musahar community, said Yuktilal Marik Dom, the chairperson of DSMN. He added, "The last time, the target was to distribute relief to 180 households, of which to 135 houses were distributed and to another 45 houses would be distributed the next day." Earlier, the DSMN had distributed relief to 472 households of Dom, Musahar, Ram and Paswan communities in Kanchanrup Municipality with the support of Mahayogi Shridhar Rana Rinpoche, said Mr. Marik.
The relief items include 25 kg of dry rice, 5 kg of wheat flour, 3 kg of pulses, 3 kg of soybean, 4 packs of soap and 2 packets of salt. The distribution was completed in the presence of local stakeholders Chunchun Sah, Ward Chairman of Chhinnamasta Gaonpalika Ward No. 2, Area Police Office SA Shiva Kumar Ram, Ward Members Shardadevi Sada, Jita Devi Safi, Laldev Yadav and Ram Chandra Mandal.
Chunchun Sah, ward chairperson of Chhinnamasta Gaonpalika Ward No. 2, said that the marginalized Doms and Mushars have received great relief after the DSMN have distributed food relief to them, since the rural-municipality have been able to provide relief only once.
Bhola Kumar Paswan, the executive director of the organization, said that the relief has been distributed to the Dalit communities with keeping the marginalized Musahar community in first priority due to the ongoing lockdown since April 25. According to Director Paswan, the DSMN has distributed food relief materials to 105 households of Musahar and Dom communities of Barhathwa Municipality - 8, 10 and Haripur Municipality -4 of Sarlahi district. Jay Poudel, the founder of Stories of Nepal, has been cooperating with DSMN for the past two years for support in the livelihood of the marginalized Musahar community.
